Have you considered...

The Void

Say What????
There is a void, a pregnant space all around us. It is not devoid of life; it holds all of life.

What calls to you?
Where You Live

Do you live in your house, your geographical location? I think Not! We live in our bodies. Yes, you could say your mind, emotions, thoughts, feelings. I once asked a group of Fifth Graders this question. One boy stood up put his hand over his heart and said, "I live in my Heart!" I commented - "You are way ahead of the game, Good Answer! " In truth the territory of how you feel- where you live- resonates in what I term, your 'Internal Space". How you manage your daily habits, even thoughts, contributes to how comfortable you are with 'where you live'.

Mind/Body fitness is about authorship of your 'Internal Space'. What you eat, how much you exercise, your friendships, your love relationship, these are all factors which combined equate your overall sense of well being. Your attitude about your career, avocations, hobbies, etc. influences your mental state of being. Who is in control? Easy answer, You are! A teacher of mine once asked our group, "If you could control whether there was ever a war again what would you do? Many students looked worried and fearful; probably thinking, What would I do? How would I do that???? The teacher replied, "The answer is easy, Stop War Now!" Inherent in her question was the ability to influence the outcome, that was a given. Inherent in our thoughts is the ability to design a set of habits, attitudes that feeds us, in short, lifestyle management. The feedback system is systemic. It is not comprised of an authority outside of ourselves.

Also inherent is the process of self discovery. Every religion around the globe points to some form action that promotes self knowledge - Look Within to Discover Wholeness, Peace, Self. By tuning in to ourselves we open to an opportunity to become aware and conscious of the stream of our thoughts. Once we become aware we can then act in a way that sets the tone for a healthy attitude. This becomes the first step in creating a healthy lifestyle. Through simple mind/body techniques such as yoga, a walk focusing on the breath, listening to a relaxation tape, or meditation, we can attain a level of well being that is our own, our gift to ourselves. Think of it as an art form! You are the artist arranging habits and responsibilities into a continuously shifting picture of....healthful, meaningful, gracious living.

In this newsletter I will be offering ideas to assist you in finding your most perfect balance.

Perform your exercise routine of choice drawing your focus back to your breath -notice texture- raspy, clear, smooth, heavy, light; rate-fast, slow, deliberate; fullness-deep, measured, full, shallow. What did you notice? Make a notation in your journal, on your calendar.
