A Matter of Attitude - Every Thought is a Prayer

Each increment of breath, each measure, is a space that opens. It nourishes and cleanses; it enhances and calms. Just like in life, small steps equal large movement..step by step, breath by breath, decision by decision. The phases of your breath can offer you new ways of being. Live in your body, live in your breath! Your attention is your greatest gift! Celebrate your aliveness, your beingness by focusing on your breath.
Resolutions!

The celebration of the New Year into the last hours of the last day of December and beyond, is arbitrary - we have all become accustom to this secular marking in the Western World. Some view it as just another day. Albeit a day that may mark the time they draw their books to a close or make a donation to their favorite charity. Some are only a bit more esoteric when they freshen their approach to work or decide it cannot hurt to make blackeyed-pea soup for good luck...the list goes on and on. This year unlike any in the past marks even a larger leap into not just another year but a new century!

Some view the New Year as an opportunity! I welcome it as a opportunity to introspect. I choose to view it as an opportunity to evaluate and to become pro-active in my lifestyle. On a soley philosophic level it is a time to evaluate from whence I have come. Scanning the last twelve months make a list of the highlights. Make it simple: the birth of my first child, a bike trip to Italy, an illness in the family, a marital separation, a project complete, a new job, relocation. Each of these incidents has an up and a downside. The birth of the child would certainly change your lifestyle habits considerably. Now the dictates of your time are not just work or leisure but Mr. or Miss #1. An illness in the family smacks of only down side. Yet, when a member of the family beomes ill often the rallying of the other family members brings each member into our lives more often, an upside. Congratulate yourself on your successes! Congratulate yourself on walking through the trials of the past year. What would you do differently?

What about your own fitness level, your overall health. Have your fitness habits been simply maintained or have you improved, lost interest? Congratulate yourself on your progress, your joys and accomplishments. What is looming on the horizon? In any area of your life to what are you looking forward? What is it that you want to draw into your life? By being proactive, focusing on what is desired or possible you add sub context to your life. I am not just speaking of goals. I am referring also to moments. In terms of your past exercise activites what were the moments you savored this past year: training for a race, starting a yoga class, relating the story of your 6 major hikes, watching the seasons change on your daily walk, dropping some inches, strength training .....?

If you are interested in keeping a record of your activities and progress with an Activity Sheet, contact Laura@ bodymindfitness.net.
